KMT presidential ticket promises major investment \
The opposition Kuomintang's (KMT) candidates for president and vice president are promising to invest in 12 major investment projects over the next eight years if they are elected.
The candidates, Ma Ying-jeou and Vincent Siew, said Thursday that they would invest NT$3.99 trillion (US$123.5 billion). Ma and Siew said the projects would provide job opportunities and expand domestic demand.
The opposition ticket favors stronger ties with China. Their economic policies have drawn criticism, though, with opponents saying they put Taiwan's competitive edge at risk.
But Ma said action speaks louder than words, and that his investment projects show that he truly loves Taiwan. His proposed plans would include better national transportation links, environmental protection measures and flood prevention projects.
