The KMT's presidential candidate, Ma Ying-jeou, stumped for the party's candidates in a rally in Chiayi City, southern Taiwan. In his speech at the rally, Ma said that his party is vying not only to win the March 12 presidential election but also a majority in the legislature.
"A Kuomintang president can't carry out his job efficiently unless his party controls the legislature," Ma told the nearly 15,000 participants in the rally, urging them to support not only his presidential bid but also the KMT candidates in the Jan. 22 legislative elections.
Meanwhile, KMT Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung attended a campaign rally on Kinmen Island where the KMT legislative candidate Wu Cheng-tin is facing challenges from five rivals. Wu Poh-hsiung stumped for Wu Cheng-tin at a ceremony marking the party's founding anniversary after cutting the ribbon to formally open Wu's campaign office, claiming that if Wu is elected, this will help boost the island's role as a transit stop between Taiwan and mainland China.
